Morris Residence, Sydney Australia
This contemporary residence reimagines the classic timber cottage, infusing it with a modern aesthetic. The dwelling is composed of three distinct forms, intelligently situated along the boundaries of the triangular site.
The steep gabled facade, embracing a traditional form, undergoes a modern transformation with a restrained palette of materials. An exposed steel frame, unpainted timber batten cladding, and a zinc roof converge to craft an unmistakably modern structure.
The textured external skin of timber not only adds visual interest but also carries a poetic quality reminiscent of the decorative elements found in historical timber cottages. This tactile richness elevates the design, blending tradition with innovation.
The horizontal timber batten skin skillfully conceals openings, creating the illusion of a seamless, homogeneous timber box. This subtle yet impactful manipulation enhances the overall aesthetic, marrying contemporary design principles with the charm of historical timber cottages.
