Gosford Apartments, NSW Australia
This innovative 180-unit apartment complex is a masterful response to the challenges posed by the unique topography of an old sandstone quarry. The site's complex conditions are artfully navigated through two buildings comprising eight blocks, seamlessly connected by glass lobbies serving as entrances to each block.
The architectural form of the buildings exhibits a ribbon-like quality, gracefully following the contours of the road. This design choice not only contributes to a dynamic aesthetic but also defines a central courtyard, a landscaped haven that incorporates elements of the old quarry and preserves the natural vegetation on the ridge to the west.
Amidst the complexity, sustainability takes center stage. The majority of the apartments feature crossover unit typologies designed for natural cross-ventilation, ensuring a comfortable and environmentally conscious living experience. Each unit boasts dual aspects, offering residents captivating views – a choice between gazing back towards Gosford town center or south across the mesmerizing Brisbane Waters. This harmonious integration of architectural finesse, sustainability, and scenic surroundings establishes this complex as a testament to thoughtful design in the face of challenging site conditions.
